In a game played at lightning speed for over 90 minutes, Flamengo and Botafogo drew 1-1 on Wednesday night at Maracanã Stadium in the 22nd round of the Brazilian Championship. It was the fifth draw in the classic in 2007.

Goal-scoring full-back Juan scored the red-and-black goal in the first half, and Jorge Henrique equalized for Botafogo in the second. Flamengo returns to action next Saturday at 18:10 PM at the Maracanã stadium to face Sport.

Each team was better during a period of the match. Flamengo dominated the first half and created the first opportunity to open the scoring 30 seconds into the match: Shortly after the ball went out, Toró received the ball in the box on the right flank and hit a cross that went wide. In the 17th minute, Cristian took a free kick from the edge of the box, Max rebounded, and Léo Moura finished from the baseline.

Ever the better side, Flamengo had another great chance in the 26th minute, when Juan crossed from the left and Souza missed a great chance, almost in the six-yard box. In the 34th minute, they reversed roles, and it worked: Souza sent Juan into the box, the full-back came in, tapped it past Max, and opened the scoring: Flamengo 1-0.

Botafogo came back stronger in the second half and, after two chances created by Flamengo, with Renato Augusto and Toró, they equalized in the 14th minute. Adriano Felício made a great play on the right, crossed, and Jorge Henrique headed home from the six-yard box: 1-1.

Flamengo's biggest opportunity came in the 30th minute: Obina was brought down in the box by Renato Silva: a penalty that Souza took into the left corner and goalkeeper Max saved without giving a rebound.

After Flamengo missed the penalty, Botafogo started to grow again and goalkeeper Bruno secured the draw with good saves from shots by Juninho, at 37, Reinaldo, at 40 and Zé Roberto, at 45.
