In a game with many controversial refereeing decisions, Flamengo drew 1-1 with Corinthians this Sunday (22), at Neo Química Arena, for the 8th round of the Brasileirão. Lucas Paquetá opened the scoring just two minutes into the game, and Yuri Alberto equalized for the home team. It is worth highlighting the commitment of the Flamengo team, which played the entire second half with one less player, as Evertton Araújo was unfairly sent off.

Now, Flamengo will only play again on April 2nd, when they face RB Bragantino away from home. The break in the championship is due to the FIFA international break.

The game

The match had barely started in Itaquera when Flamengo opened the scoring after just two minutes. Hugo Souza misjudged a shot on goal, Jorginho recovered the ball and passed to Pedro. The number 9 delivered a good pass for Paquetá to volley home, giving the Corinthians goalkeeper no chance: 1-0.

Trailing behind, the home team tried to press for the equalizer, which came in the 18th minute. Memphis delivered a good pass to Matheus Bidu, who crossed into the box for Yuri Alberto to finish into the net: 1-1. A very lively start to the game in Itaquera.

Flamengo didn't let the goal affect them and continued to attack, creating a good opportunity in the 23rd minute. In a good play by Varela and Arrascaeta, the Uruguayan crossed into the area. Pedro tried to volley it, but was thwarted by the Corinthians defense.

The match remained open for the rest of the first half, with both teams constantly looking to attack. In stoppage time, Flamengo almost regained the lead. Danilo broke down the right wing and, at the edge of the penalty area, delivered a perfect cross for Arrascaeta to volley beautifully. Hugo Souza made a great save, tipping the ball over for a corner. A very lively game at the Neo Química Arena, with the teams going into halftime tied on the scoreboard.

For the second half, Flamengo brought on Ayrton Lucas in place of Alex Sandro, who had suffered a muscle strain. Seven minutes into the second half, after a challenge with Breno Bidon, Evertton Araújo received a red card. The referee went to VAR to review the play, but maintained the erroneous decision to send off the Flamengo player.

With one man down, coach Leonardo Jardim was forced to make changes to the team, bringing on De La Cruz in place of Arrascaeta and Carrascal in place of Samuel Lino. Even with a numerical disadvantage, the Flamengo team was well-organized and didn't suffer much pressure.

In the final minutes, Vitão fell to the ground and asked to be substituted. Léo Ortiz came on in his place. In stoppage time, Rossi made a spectacular save from a close-range shot by Yuri Alberto, securing the draw in Itaquera.
