Flamengo and Coritiba played an open and lively game on Sunday night, November 20.11, at the Maracanã Stadium. The 2-2 final score eliminates their chances of winning the title, but virtually guarantees Flamengo a spot in the group stage of the next edition of the Copa Libertadores da América. 

The Nation was still climbing the Maracanã stadium when, just two minutes into the game, Diego passed the ball to Éverton, wide open on the left. The cross was perfect, and Gabriel hit a beautiful shot, "a lofted shot," to open the scoring. Until the 2th minute, the Mais Querido (Most Beloved) pressed hard and didn't let Coritiba breathe, creating good chances through Éverton, Guerrero, and, again, Gabriel. The fans sang along, and Coritiba, cornered, couldn't even touch the ball.

In the 28th minute, Flamengo launched a deadly counterattack. Márcio Araújo stole the ball in the defensive half and passed it to Jorge. The pass to Éverton was perfect, and the cross to Diego was exquisite. The midfielder made no mistake about goalkeeper Wilson and bulged the net at Maracanã for the second time. It was Éverton's seventh assist, the red-and-black's best waiter in the championship. The fans, who had been singing since the start of the game, went wild in the stands, demonstrating once again why Maracanã isn't the same without Flamengo. 

Inspired, midfielder Diego threw a disconcerting egg at Amaral. The play sent the crowd into a frenzy, as if it were the third goal, which almost came in the 40th minute, in the most beautiful play of the first half. Gabriel passed to Guerrero, who backheeled Arão straight at goal. A product of the Flamengo youth academy, goalkeeper Wilson saved Coxa. In the following play, from a no-nonsense corner, the Mais Querido's first blunder of the game resulted in Amaral's goal. Flamengo felt the goal, and the final whistle of the first half was well received by all.

The second half arrived, and the pace was frenetic both on the field and in the stands. Both teams had excellent chances to score. But it was Coritiba, in the 42nd minute, that tied the game with a Kleber goal.

While the result was far from what was expected, Flamengo still has a good chance of securing a direct spot in the group stage of the next Copa Libertadores. To do so, Flamengo, now with 67 points, simply needs to draw with Santos at Maracanã next Sunday, or Atlético Mineiro, with 62, fails to defeat São Paulo at Mineirão.
