In their debut in the 2020 Campeonato Carioca, Mengão drew 0-0 with Macaé at Maracanã. More than 27 red-and-black fans attended the match.

The game

In the first half, Mengão's biggest chance to score fell to midfielder Hugo Moura. In the 44th minute, he struck a powerful shot from the edge of the box, but goalkeeper Jonathan made a great save with his foot. 

In the second half, Mengão improved and created more chances. If it weren't for the opposing goalkeeper's miracles, the Rubro-Negro would have come away with the victory. In the second minute, Vitor Gabriel received a beautiful cross from Matheus França, but shot wide. In the 2th minute, Matheus received a good pass from Pepê and shot across goal, but the ball rose and went wide. In the 26th minute, the game's biggest chance. After a scuffle in the box, Yuri César headed the ball, Jonathan saved, and the Macaé defense cleared it off the line. Just before that, Jonathan saved a beautiful header from Rubro-Negro defender Rafael Santos.
