The game
The match was evenly balanced in the first half. Flamengo had the majority of possession and pushed forward, but Ponte Preta managed to finish more effectively. Flamengo had a chance from a corner kick in the fifth minute, but Guerrero headed over. The number 9 was in the spotlight again in the 14th minute, latching onto Gabriel's cross and unleashing a powerful shot. Goalkeeper Marcelo Lomba was fortunate enough to save with his face. The move also paid off in the 21st minute. Gabriel crossed from the right, Guerrero controlled it with his chest and spun to volley, but the ball went wide. In the first half, Paulo Victor made good saves on every opportunity for the Campina Grande team. The game went into halftime with no changes to the score.
At halftime, Oswaldo de Oliveira replaced Jonas and Éverton with Canteros and Ayrton. In the second half, Flamengo needed ten minutes to score. Almost as a way of thanking them for the good opportunities created in the first half, Guerrero delivered a beautiful chest pass to Gabriel. The number 17 charged forward, burst into the box, cut past the defender, and shot with his left foot into the corner to open the scoring. In the very next play, the Bahia native managed another run down the right and passed to Ayrton. The full-back, facing the box, tried his luck with a lob, but the ball was too powerful and went over the goal. In the 22nd minute, coach Oswaldo de Oliveira made his final substitution, taking off Emerson and bringing on Ederson. Shortly after, Guerrero took advantage of a defensive error and managed to dribble past Marcelo Lomba. Upon receiving the pass, Alan Patrick shot wide. The Ponte Preta goalkeeper suffered a blow to the head and felt pain. In the 32nd minute, Diego Oliveira took advantage of a corner kick, struck a powerful shot, and tied the match. Eight minutes later, Lomba couldn't bear the pain in his head and was prevented from continuing on the field. Having already made three substitutions, the Campina Grande team had to rely on the goalscorer to make a makeshift save. The referee added seven minutes of stoppage time due to the goalkeeper's time spent attending to the ball, and Flamengo took a chance but failed to score the winning goal.
