On the afternoon of this Sunday (May 17.05th), Flamengo hosted Sport at the Maracanã for the second round of the Brazilian Championship. The Recife team opened a 2-0 lead, but Flamengo reacted in the final stage and tied the game with goals from Canteros, at 28 minutes, and Éverton, at 50 minutes.

While the teams didn't create many scoring opportunities in the first half, the second half was thrilling. Flamengo returned with a much more offensive approach for the second half, creating numerous chances, Sport saw Diego Souza step into goal. With three substitutions already made, the striker had to defend in place of Magrão, who left injured in the 38th minute of the second half.

Vanderlei Luxemburgo's team returns to the field next Sunday (May 24.05th), at 16 pm, against Avaí, at Ressacada, for the third round of the Brasileirão.

Flamengo started the match trying to find spaces in the opposing defense with long balls from the flanks and plays down the byline. The team had four corner kicks in the first 20 minutes of the match, but without managing to create any danger for goalkeeper Magrão. Neither team created any clear goal-scoring opportunities until the 25th minute, when Diego Souza... 

He received the ball in a good position, but Flamengo's defense blocked the shot. The best chance for Flamengo came with Wallace, who attempted a header after a corner kick taken by Almir in the 42nd minute, forcing Magrão to make a save almost on the goal line. In stoppage time, Canteros fouled Joeliton inside the area. Diego Souza took the free kick and converted for Sport, who went into halftime leading 1-0.

During halftime, Luxemburgo made two substitutions. Jonas and Almir left, and Márcio Araújo and Paulinho entered. Besides the change in players, the team came onto the field with a different attitude, with greater offensive force. Five minutes in, Canteros attempted a header, the ball fell to Alecsandro, who also stretched but couldn't reach it. The team still created good chances with fast plays involving Paulinho and Éverton, exciting the fans present at the Maracanã, but it was Sport who extended their lead. At 23 minutes, Élber made it 2-0 for the Recife team. Flamengo showed fighting spirit and didn't give up after the opponent's goal. At 25 minutes, Éverton crossed into the area and defender Durval saved Magrão's goal. Shortly after, at 28 minutes, Alecsandro chested the ball down and crossed for Canteros to head it into the net, making it 1-2. Wallace almost extended the lead, also with a header, at 32 minutes, but the ball went over the crossbar. The pressure from the Flamengo club didn't stop, and five minutes later, the defender tried again, shooting from distance. Magrão made a two-handed save, but was injured in the process, and the game was stopped for ten minutes for treatment of the player, who ended up leaving injured. As Sport had already made all three substitutions, striker Diego Souza went into goal, as an improvised goalkeeper.

At the start of the second half, Flamengo took advantage of their numerical superiority and equalized. In the 50th minute, Paulinho crossed into the box, Eduardo chested the ball down for Éverton, who fired a beautiful shot into the top corner past Diego Souza. In the final second, Gabriel came close down the right flank, forcing Diego Souza into a great reflex save.
