The game
Flamengo started the match in the characteristic style of 2016: with a lot of attacking play and passing. The first good chance came in the 11th minute, when Arão took advantage of a pass from Emerson and headed the ball to Guerrero. The Peruvian shot hard from the edge of the area, but the opposing goalkeeper managed to save it. Flamengo continued to press and create the best chances, but it was Figueirense who opened the scoring. On a counter-attack, Everton Santos made it 1-0 in the 29th minute. Flamengo's response was immediate. In the 32nd minute, Ederson went forward, fought for the ball and passed it to Guerrero, who adjusted and shot with his left foot to equalize. The half-time whistle blew with the score tied.
In the second half, Figueirense began to take more risks in attack, but once again Flamengo dominated. Just three minutes in, Emerson had a chance to score the second goal after a beautiful through ball from Ederson, but the opposing goalkeeper made a good save. Marcelo Cirino showed his speed on the right wing in plays with Rodinei and Willian Arão, and Flamengo continued to press. At 21 minutes, Gabriel, who had come on for Ederson, dribbled well and shot against the post. Guerrero got to the rebound and shot powerfully, but the goalkeeper managed to save. Cuéllar took a strong shot at 29 minutes and once again forced the goalkeeper of the Santa Catarina team to make a good save. Lucas Paquetá had a chance among the starters when, at 40 minutes, he came on for Marcelo Cirino. The second half ended without any changes to the score.
