After two victories in the return of the Brazilian Championship, Flamengo ended up drawing with Avaí, 1-1, at Maracanã, this Wednesday (21.07). With the result, the red-black team left the G4, but remained at the top of the classification table with 16 points. The highlight of the night was Diego Maurício's goal, the young striker's first in a professional jersey.
Unhappy with the result, Flamengo's players left the pitch feeling that something was missing, especially in the second half, but with their heads in the right place to seek other good results.
"We always look for a win when we step onto the field. Even more so at home, in front of our fans. We scored early and could have extended the lead. We fell back a bit in the second half, which is normal, but we still dominated the game. Avaí was lucky and skillful enough to score a good free kick to equalize," said left-back Juan.
Next Sunday at 16 p.m., Flamengo faces Internacional at Beira Rio. The match marks a battle for top spots in the standings, as both teams have the same number of points: 16.
Promising start
Flamengo started the game showing great tactical commitment. The team, well-positioned, valued possession, while Avaí simply defended. Early on, with two good passing exchanges, Flamengo threatened their Santa Catarina rival.
And these chances served to announce the first goal for young Diego Maurício for Flamengo's professional team. In the 10th minute, after a well-organized play by Petkovic, Vinícius Pacheco, and Léo Moura, the young Flamengo striker finished into the right corner of Avaí goalkeeper Renan's net, opening the scoring: 1-0.
Stunned by the goal, Avaí continued to pose no problems for Flamengo and nearly conceded a second. In the 22nd minute, the Santa Catarina team's defense poorly passed the ball back to goalkeeper Renan, and Diego Maurício nearly extended the lead. In response, the Santa Catarina team mounted a dangerous counterattack immediately afterward. Striker Roberto received the ball on the right wing and sent a dangerous cross, but Léo Moura arrived with a sliding tackle to clear the ball and send it out for a corner.
Avaí managed to get one more chance, with a well-taken free kick by Gabriel, but Marcelo Lomba went for the ball in the right corner of the Flamengo goal. And even though they were intimidated by their Santa Catarina rival, Flamengo remained calm and in control of the game.
The dominance was clear, and before the first 45 minutes were over, Flamengo threatened twice more. The first was a powerful shot from midfielder Willians, who made a great play, and the second was a counterattack led by Correa.

Avaí's Antonio Lopes coach changed his team at halftime and managed to level the playing field. The Santa Catarina team began sharing possession more with Flamengo and had the first good scoring chance of the second half. In the 10th minute, after a mix-up in the box, Léo Moura slipped and the ball fell to Eltinho, who crossed for Roberto. The Santa Catarina striker shot wide under pressure from Ronaldo Angelim.
But Avaí eventually managed to even the score as well. Gabriel, who had already taken a dangerous free kick in the first half, hit a free kick into the right corner of Marcelo Lomba's net: 1-1. With the equalizer, coach Rogério Lourenço, who had already taken off Vinícius Pacheco for Camacho, brought on Colombian Cristian Borja and Romulo in place of Kleberson and Correa.
In addition to the player changes, Flamengo switched to a 3-5-2 formation, freed up the fullbacks, and attacked Avaí. Despite having more possession, Flamengo couldn't secure the victory and left the field with a draw.
