Flamengo and Londrina drew in the first match of the year for the red-and-black team. Playing 45 minutes with the starting lineup and another 45 with a team largely composed of youngsters, Flamengo put in a good performance, had some chances to score, and also benefited from Felipe's brilliant save of a penalty in the first half. However, the score remained 0-0.
After the match, the delegation returns to the hotel where they are staying and will only resume training on Monday afternoon (January 10.01th) at the SM Sports training center. Flamengo will play one more friendly match in Londrina before returning to Rio de Janeiro. Next Sunday (January 16.01th), the Rubro-negro will play against América-MG, also at the Estádio do Café.
What a debut, Felipe!
The first half of the match was very balanced. Still unable to play their best football, Flamengo faced a team with more training time and much better teamwork. However, they had a large part of the crowd on their side and created more good scoring chances. The one who really shone, however, was the Flamengo goalkeeper, Felipe.
The first opportunity for Flamengo came in the 15th minute, after a beautiful exchange of passes between Renato, Fernando, Wanderley, and Vander, who received the ball at the edge of the area and shot across goal, forcing a save from the opposing goalkeeper. From the resulting corner, Fernando headed the ball towards goal, but Renato made another good save. Four minutes later, Wanderley made a good play down the right and crossed for Deivid to head the ball down, but the defense intercepted.
Threatening on the counter-attack, Londrina had their best chance in the 23rd minute. Welinton brought down Willian in the area: penalty. The Paraná striker stepped up to take the penalty, but Felipe showed his skill and made the save. The red-and-black section of the stadium erupted. And they almost did so again in the 35th minute, when David nearly opened the scoring with a header. But the game remained 0-0 after the first 45 minutes.
The team changes, but the score doesn't.
As expected, in the final stage coach Vanderlei Luxemburgo made significant changes to the team. Flamengo returned from the locker room with only three players who had started the match on the field: Willians, Vander, and Wanderley. The starting lineup consisted of Paulo Victor, Fierro, Jean, Ronaldo Angelim, and Rodrigo Alvim; João Vitor, Willians, Muralha, and Vander; Negueba and Wanderley.
The team gained speed and continued to create good chances. At 12 minutes, Ronaldo Angelim delivered a good cross from the left and Willians headed strongly towards the goal. Renato made another save. Four minutes later, Fierro, with a free kick, also threatened. At 20 minutes, Vander, Willians and Wanderley left the field, replaced by Digão, Adryan and Romário.
The game's pattern remained the same: Flamengo with more possession and Londrina with good counter-attack opportunities. And the score remained the same. Despite both teams trying hard, no goals were scored and the game ended in a 0-0 draw.
