Flamengo draws 0-0 with LDU in Quito for the Libertadores
Rubro-Negro secures an important point aiming to qualify for the next phase of the continental competition
By Romulo Paranhos - inAt an altitude of 2.850 m in Quito (EQU), Flamengo drew 0-0 with LDU on Tuesday night (22), at Casa Blanca stadium, in the third round of Group C of the Libertadores. With the result, Rubro-Negro reached four points in its group. In the next round, Filipe Luís' team will face Central Córdoba, in Argentina, and then will play the last two games at home to guarantee qualification for the next phase of the continental competition.

The game
Flamengo started the match valuing possession, exchanging passes from the defensive half to the attack. On the other hand, LDU struggled to make the offensive transition, largely due to the red-and-black defense, which was well-positioned in the opening minutes.
In the 11th minute, Flamengo had its first shot on goal. Erick Pulgar took a shot from outside the box, but the ball went over the goal. Flamengo controlled possession, as the Ecuadorian team waited in their own half to try to counterattack.
In the 36th minute, Gerson launched a pass into the box, Juninho set a screen, and Arrascaeta got the ball. The Uruguayan took a left-footed shot, but the goalkeeper saved it. It was Mengão's clearest chance of the first half, which ended goalless.
In the second half, Flamengo continued to dominate possession. LDU made numerous errors when moving the ball out and struggled to reach the Flamengo box. Before the 15th minute, Pedro was called on and replaced Juninho. Shortly after, Cebolinha and Luiz Araújo came on in place of Bruno Henrique and Arrascaeta.
The rain fell heavily in Quito, making the pitch heavier. As the game progressed, the red-and-black team wore down, and as a result, LDU grew stronger and began to pose more of a threat. The red-and-black team had a great chance in the 31st minute. Luiz Araújo broke through the middle, made a good individual play, dribbled past two players, entered the box, but shot over the goal.
In the final minutes, LDU went all out on the attack, looking for the winning goal. But Flamengo managed to withstand the home team's pressure and left the field with a point.
