The second half of the 2017 Brazilian Championship is about to begin. Flamengo kicks off the final stage of the competition against Atlético Mineiro at Independência Stadium this Sunday at 16 p.m., aiming for a victory and a comeback. Currently in fifth place with 29 points, a win is essential to maintain its position at the top of the table. 

The team will once again be led by Jayme de Almeida and will be without Diego and Everton, who are suspended, and Guerrero, who is recovering. The rest of the squad will be available for Jayme for the match in Belo Horizonte. One of the standout players in the last match against Palestino on Wednesday, Geuvânio left the field with cramps, but recovered and will play Sunday's game. The striker explained what he expects from Flamengo in the match. 

"It will be a very difficult and balanced match. Flamengo and Atlético are two big teams and will want the three points. We're motivated by the victory against Palestino, which came at a good time and gave us extra confidence for Sunday," said the number 23, who scored his first goal for Flamengo against the Chilean team. 

"The goal was very important to give me peace of mind. I worked hard to get it. I haven't reached my peak yet, but with the games I'll reach my ideal physical form. I'm improving. In this game against Palestino, I felt better able to do what I used to do, which was attack and score," he added.

Flamengo has the advantage in head-to-head matches against Atlético Mineiro overall. In 109 meetings, the Red-Blacks have won 43, lost 34, and drawn 32. Considering the Brazilian Championship alone, there are ties. Flamengo hasn't lost to Atlético Mineiro in two years. In 22, they faced each other three times, with two wins in Rio and one draw.
