Returning to Maracanã after beating Universidad Católica in the Conmebol Libertadores Bridgestone by 3 to 1, Flamengo receives Fluminense, at 16 pm, in the second game of the grand final of the 2017 Carioca Championship. Mengo won the first duel by 1 to 0, with a goal from Éverton.
Flamengo is seeking its sixth undefeated title in the history of the Campeonato Carioca. The team achieved this feat in 1915, 1920, 1979, and 2011. In 2017, the Rubro-Negro has played 16 games in the state championship, with eleven wins, five draws, and no losses. They scored 37 goals and conceded eleven.
First act
In the first meeting between the teams in the Campeonato Carioca final, the Mais Querido won with a goal from Éverton in the 33rd minute of the first half. With a left-footed shot into the top corner, the red-and-black number 22 gave Flamengo the advantage in the final.
Retrospect is favorable
Flamengo has the advantage in the history of this clash. In 409 meetings, the "Mais Querido" (the "Most Beloved") won 148, with 132 draws and 129 losses. Flamengo has scored 599 goals against Fluminense.
The last time the teams met in a Campeonato Carioca final, in 1991, the red-and-black team prevailed, defeating Fluminense 4-2 at the Maracanã on December 19th. The first meeting of that final ended in a 1-1 draw.
