Flamengo debuts with victory in the South American League
The team beat Malvin of Uruguay 94-92 and, this Saturday, will face Inacap of Chile.

Santiago del Estero (Argentina) - Flamengo debuted with a victory in the South American Club League, in Santiago del Estero, Argentina. On Friday night (October 29.10th), the red-and-black team defeated Malvin, from Uruguay, 94-92. Marcelinho was the top scorer of the match, with 22 points. This Saturday, Flamengo returns to the court against Inacap, from Chile, at 20:30 pm (Brasilia time). The Rio de Janeiro team is in Group B, which also includes Quimsa, from Argentina. Two teams will qualify for the final hexagonal. Flamengo is seeking its second championship in the competition.
Flamengo started the game strong on defense and quickly opened up a 12-point lead (22-9), finishing the first quarter 32-17. Malvin returned to the game stronger, while Flamengo relaxed. The difference narrowed to three points: 36-33. But with two three-pointers from Marcelinho, Flamengo widened the gap again and went into halftime leading 51-40.
At the start of the second half, during a ball dispute in the Uruguayan paint, Duda twisted his right ankle and had to be carried off the court. The team lost focus and allowed Malvin to close the gap: 60-58. The Uruguayans took the lead (66-67), but a three-pointer by Guto put Flamengo back in the lead: 69-67. Shortly after, Malvin regained the lead and finished the third quarter winning 69-71.
In the final quarter, Flamengo, more focused, opened up a 75-71 lead. The Uruguayans began to apply pressure, and with two minutes remaining, the difference narrowed to two points: 87-85. The game remained balanced until the end, with neither team gaining a significant advantage. In the end, Flamengo prevailed: 94-92.
According to coach Paulo Chupeta, the anxiety of the debut ended up hindering the team a bit. "The team started well, but ended up losing focus. I think the nervousness of the debut got in the way. Now we have to think about the next game, which will also be difficult," he assessed.
Winger Teichmann, who had a great first half, believes Flamengo felt the pressure in the second half. "We started well, taking advantage of the Uruguayan team's defensive lapse, but in the second half they put a lot of pressure on us, which made things difficult. We have to learn from this game, because it will be the same against Quimsa (Sunday)," he said.
Shooting guard Duda will undergo tests this Saturday. According to physiotherapist Ricardo Machado, the injury was serious and he is not expected to play again in this phase of the League.
