Flamengo debuts with victory in the State Basketball Championship
The team defeated Iguaçu by 142 to 52. The next challenge for the red-black team will be against Riachuelo.

Flamengo debuted with a victory in the State Basketball Championship. Seeking its sixth title, the team defeated Iguaçu 142-52 on Friday night (September 24) at the Tijuca Tênis Clube Gymnasium. The team's next challenge in the competition will be against Riachuelo on Monday (September 24.09) at 27.09:30 pm at the Clube Municipal gymnasium. Upon his return to Flamengo, center Bábby was the top scorer of the match with 29 points. Marcelinho, who cut short his vacation after the World Cup in Turkey to play in the State Championship, scored 20 points.
Flamengo took to the court with its main stars: Hélio, Duda, Marcelinho, Teichmann, and Bábby. The team, however, was without its full strength, as American point guard Kyle Lamonte sprained his foot in practice last Tuesday and was rested, and center Átila has not yet been registered. Even so, it didn't take long for Flamengo to take a 13-0 lead. The first quarter ended 40-10 in favor of Flamengo. In the second quarter, coach Paulo Chupeta brought on Fred, Wagner, Jefferson, and Guto, in addition to Marcelinho. And, without any difficulty, Flamengo closed the first half with a 65-16 lead.
The red-and-black team reached triple digits at the end of the third quarter, opening up a 60-point lead (100-40). In the fourth quarter, the lead reached 89 points (137-48), and Chupeta brought on three young players: Máx, Guilherme, and Luiz. The team maintained the momentum, closing out the game 142-52. The match served as a magnificent training session for the team's upcoming challenges, such as the South American League and the NBB.
"I'm very happy to be back at Flamengo, especially on such a talented, valuable team. Despite the big score difference, the game was important as preparation for the South American Championship, for the team to get back into the swing of things. Our goal is to win every tournament we'll play in this season," said center Bábby, who returned to the club after a season with Paulistano.
Before the start of the State Championship, Flamengo submitted a request to the Rio Basketball Federation to enter the State Championship only in the semifinals, but the request was denied.
