Flamengo debuts in the Libertadores against a tough team, fanatical fans and altitude

The time has come. The season's main competition begins this Tuesday for Flamengo. There's no other topic, no other discussion. Today, Flamengo is on the field for the Conmebol Libertadores, and nothing else matters.
Starting at 19 p.m., the ball will roll for the match against San José, at the 3880-meter-high Jesús Bermúdez stadium in Oruro, the second-highest in South America. Abel Braga's team is ready for the battle that opens Group D of the competition. In the other match, which will take place immediately afterward, LDU and Peñarol face off in Quito.
Preparation
Since the last State Championship match, the 3-1 victory over Portuguesa on Thursday, the team has been preparing for this match. With training at Gávea, as has been the case in the past, the team has finalized the final details. See how the team prepared through FlaTv's lens.
Flamengo traveled to Bolivia on Sunday. As part of their training, the team stayed in Santa Cruz de la Sierra for two days at sea level, ascending to the game city only at match time to minimize the effects of altitude. Check out behind-the-scenes footage from the trip below.

San José isn't in good form, but they're a very dangerous team. Sixth in the Bolivian championship, Argentine coach Néstor Clausen's squad is under pressure. The reigning national champions are behind them, and the fans are desperate for a response. Their standout performer is midfielder Marcelo Gomes, who has attacking full-backs who are looking for 39-year-old center forward Carlos Salcedo. The team also promises to make good use of the altitude to surprise Flamengo.
