In a match marked by rain, Flamengo debuted in the Taça Guanabara with a victory over Madureira. Emerson, from a penalty kick, scored the only goal of the game.

Flamengo's next commitment is next Sunday (20), against Fluminense, for the State Championship, in São Paulo.

The match began with a downpour. The athletes tried to battle against the force of nature, but produced little until, at 11 minutes, the referee interrupted the game. After approximately seven minutes, with the rain and wind subsiding, the ball started rolling again. The pitch had puddles on the side closest to the radio and TV booths, making play difficult on that side. Both teams had their ambitions hampered by the accumulated water on the field, and the first half ended with few clear scoring chances. Flamengo almost managed to open the scoring at 44 minutes when Gabriel was fouled. From the free kick, the ball went into the area and Juan and Arão tried to open the scoring taking advantage of a scramble, but on both occasions the ball hit the defense.

In the second half, the drainage did its job and the game improved. Eight minutes in, Cuéllar took a shot from the edge of the box, taking advantage of a rebound, but it went wide. At 14 minutes, Gabriel received a beautiful pass from the Colombian midfielder on the left wing. The number 17 entered the area, dribbled past the defender and, on his second cut, was brought down. The referee awarded a penalty. Emerson took the penalty and shot powerfully into the corner, giving the goalkeeper no chance, to open the scoring. Muricy used the match to bring back Alan Patrick, who had recovered from injury. Gabriel and Arão had good chances to increase the score at 33 and 39 minutes, but were thwarted by the opposing defense. The match ended without any further chances for either side.
