Maracanã will close on September 8th for renovations for the 2014 World Cup. Therefore, Flamengo is already studying alternatives for other stadiums to host its matches in the 2010 Brasileirão. Vice-president of football Vinícius França explained that the Rubro-Negro's main options are the João Havelange Olympic Stadium, the Engenhão, and the Raulino de Oliveira Stadium, the Estádio da Cidadania, in Volta Redonda.

After Flamengo x Atlético-MG, on the night of this Thursday (26.08), the Biggest in the World, which already has reduced capacity with the lower seats closed, will receive only three more games, all from the Brazilian Championship: Fluminense x São Paulo (next Sunday), Fluminense x Palmeiras (September 1) and Flamengo x Santos (September 5).

The news was released in official statement published on the website of the Brazilian Football Confederation (CBF) and the works are expected to be completed in December 2012. This would make the stadium ready to host the Confederations Cup in 2013.

"We are negotiating with Botafogo to play at Engenhão and there is also the possibility of playing in Volta Redonda. I believe there will be no problem in reaching an understanding. The city and football in Rio cannot be harmed. I hope Flamengo stays in the city. The teams from Minas Gerais are suffering a lot because of this. If it can be in Rio, even better. We will seek this understanding," said Vinícius França, adding that this Friday (27/08), a meeting at the Rio de Janeiro Football Federation will define the location where Flamengo and Fluminense will play their games.
