Flamengo fans can celebrate. With a 2-0 victory over Atlético-PR, with goals from Renato Augusto and Juan, and defeats by Cruzeiro and Palmeiras, Flamengo qualified for the 2008 Copa Libertadores. The team from Gávea reached 61 points and is mathematically among the teams advancing to the most important competition in the Americas.

On the field, Flamengo started at a fast pace, quickly taking control of the game. In the seventh minute, Léo Medeiros, who had started, hit the post with a beautiful header.

The Rio de Janeiro red-and-black team continued to dominate the game, but Atlético-PR defended well, making things difficult for Flamengo's attack. Renato Augusto and Souza, the attacking duo, were unable to find a shot on goal.

In the 39th minute, Flamengo had another chance. Léo Moura crossed to Souza. The forward controlled the ball with his back to the goal and unleashed a bicycle kick that sailed just wide of Viáfara's goal. Late in the first half, Ronaldo Angelim nearly opened the scoring, finishing off a cross from the left.

In the second half, Flamengo came out to decide the game. Just four minutes in, Souza and Renato Augusto played a beautiful one-two, and the Gávea number ten finished beautifully to make it 1-0.

Flamengo kept up the pressure and were rewarded with a second goal. Renato Augusto found Juan in the box. The full-back calmly slotted the ball into the goalkeeper's corner, sending the crowd into a frenzy, once again filling the Maracanã stadium.

Flamengo held the ball and let time pass before securing their final victory of the year in front of their home crowd. A result that capped the club's impressive run in the Brazilian Championship, lifting them out of the relegation zone and securing an early spot in the 2008 Copa Libertadores.
