On Sunday night (13), Flamengo faced Nova Iguaçu in the sixth round of the Carioca Championship, at the Raulino de Oliveira Stadium. With goals from Gustavo Henrique, Arrascaeta, Gabi, Pedro and Diego, Mengão won 5-0 in a great performance. Now, Flamengo returns to the field next Wednesday (16), to face Madureira in the seventh round of the competition.

The game

The match started with a lot of action, with Flamengo possessing the ball and looking to attack. In the early stages, Everton Ribeiro and Rodinei arrived down the flanks and created dangerous situations. This strong initial pace soon paid off. In the 4th minute, Arrascaeta received the ball on the right and sent a perfect cross into the box. Gustavo Henrique rose above everyone and headed the ball into the back of the net. 1-0 Mengão.

As the first half progressed, the red-and-black team continued to dominate. First, Everton Ribeiro and Marinho made a good move down the right, and the Mais Querido's new signing sent a low cross to Gabi. The striker fired a right-footed shot that skimmed the post. Then, Rodinei received a beautiful pass from Gustavo Henrique, the full-back infiltrated the area and found Marinho, whose shot was blocked by the defense. 

Until Marinho had the ball on the edge of the box and was fouled. Arrascaeta fired a superb shot into the top corner, leaving the goalkeeper with no chance. A stunning display in Volta Redonda gave Flamengo a 2-0 lead. There was still time for one last chance in the first half. Gabi won the ball back on the right, crossed to the other side of the field where Everton Ribeiro was running unmarked, but his header went wide.

The second half started at a slower pace than the first, Flamengo had the ball, but didn't create any scoring chances. In the 15th minute of the second half, Diego, Vitinho, and Filipe Luís came on for João Gomes, Marinho, and Gustavo Henrique, respectively. In the 19th minute, after a header from Dieguinho, goalkeeper Hugo made a great save to prevent the opponent's goal.

It didn't take long for Flamengo to find the net again. In the 24th minute, Arrascaeta received the ball on the right, crossed, and the ball hit the opposing defender's hands. A penalty was awarded. Gabi, who took the penalty, displaced the goalkeeper with his usual skill and put the ball in the back of the net; 3-0, Mais Querido. The entries of Renê and Pedro, in place of Everton Ribeiro and Léo Pereira, gave the team its final shape.

Late in the match, Renê found Gabi in the middle, and the striker promptly passed to Pedro, who was running into the box, turning the beautiful result into a rout: 4-0. And it didn't stop there; in the following minutes, Pedro passed it to Renê, and the full-back crossed into the box. Diego controlled the ball, rose, and still finished in the corner. Another great goal: 5-0. And Diego's beautiful goal gave the final score to the match.
