Flamengo introduces new technology into football routine
Sensor monitors athletes' heart rate
By Communication - Official Club Website - inDuring training this Thursday (July 30.07), coach Cristóvão Borges led tactical activity at the George Helal Training Center. In addition to adjusting offensive and defensive positioning, the athletes' heart rates were monitored using new technology, introduced by the Football Department about ten days ago into the squad's routine.
Using a belt with a sensor that emits data, captured by an antenna, physiologist Cláudio Pavanelli acquires essential information, which primarily results in the analysis of each athlete's physiological overload—that is, the individual impact of training on their body, in terms of intensity. The data is acquired instantly, "on time."
"It's a physiological monitoring of training or matches, which provides data for support professionals and the coaching staff. It helps the Medical Department analyze how the athlete is responding to the work; the physical trainer quantify the training overload; the coaching staff assess whether the training performed met the desired intensity and overload; and all other departments, such as physiology, nutrition, and physical therapy, have the necessary foundation to conduct the day-to-day in the best way possible. This way, we can analyze individually, by position, or the average workload of the entire group. This gives me great confidence in prescribing individual training. From there, we achieve more qualified work, with a lower risk of injury," stated Pavanelli.
