Flamengo and Vasco da Gama drew 1-1 in the Clássico dos Milhões (Classic of Millions) in Brasília. Marcelo Cirino opened the scoring for Flamengo in the 33rd minute of the second half, but Riascos equalized for Vasco three minutes later. With the result, Flamengo reached five points in the Taça Guanabara standings. Their next match will be against Botafogo, on Saturday at 16 pm, at the Mário Helênio stadium in Juiz de Fora.
Flamengo was superior for much of the match. With Guerrero in the starting lineup, after the Peruvian returned from Uruguay and played for the national team yesterday, the team took to the field and showed no lack of grit, dedication, and fighting spirit. Fully focused on the game, Flamengo pressured Vasco throughout the first half and had several opportunities to open the scoring, but were thwarted by the saves of goalkeeper Martin Silva.
With the score tied, the team returned for the second half looking for the opening goal, but suffered pressure from the opponent in the first few minutes. Coach Muricy Ramalho brought on Alan Patrick and Marcelo Cirino in place of Ederson and Emerson, and it was their play that led to the goal. The number 19 crossed the ball and Cirino, with awareness, rose and headed it into the back of the net.
Three minutes later, Vasco equalized with a goal from Riascos on a corner kick. Despite Flamengo's persistence, the second goal didn't come. Chances appeared, the team created opportunities, but the final result remained a draw.
