Playing for the first time on a Sunday at 11 am in this Brazilian Championship, Flamengo went to São Paulo to play against Palmeiras. Flamengo started the match aggressively. Just three minutes in, Guerrero and Pará exchanged passes. The full-back entered the penalty area and was brought down, but the referee didn't award a penalty. Two minutes later, a negative event occurred. Jackson opened the scoring for the home team. Even though they were behind, Flamengo didn't give up. They began to dominate possession and exchanged passes looking for openings. At seventeen minutes, Guerrero took advantage of a defensive lapse, stole the ball and even dribbled past Fernando Prass, but fell before he could shoot. Two minutes later, the Palmeiras goalkeeper was forced to make a great save from a long-range shot by Jonas. Guerrero tested Prass again at 21 minutes with a header. Flamengo had up to 70% possession, but couldn't change the result.

In the second half, Cristóvão Borges replaced Jonas with Éderson. And the substitution had an almost immediate effect. The team returned with even more determination and almost equalized after three minutes. Éverton crossed and Éderson shot from inside the area, but the ball deflected off Guerrero. On the rebound, Márcio Araújo crossed perfectly for Emerson, who headed the ball towards goal, but Prass made the save. And, after so many attempts in such a short time, the equalizer came. After five minutes, Emerson passed the ball between the defender's legs. Éderson received it, dribbled past a defender, and shot. The ball deflected off the defense and deceived Prass. After nine minutes, Emerson almost scored again. The number 11 took advantage of a cross from Pará and shot hard, but the ball hit the crossbar, bounced on the line, and went out. The second goal would again come from the number 10, but not from his feet. Éderson capitalized on a well-taken corner kick by Alan Patrick and put Flamengo ahead.
