Flamengo is sparing no effort to keep one of its key players on the roster for the rest of the season. Vagner Love, whose rights belong to CSKA Moscow in Russia, has a contract with the club only until the 10th, but the Gávea club's board has been working hard to extend the player's contract. This Saturday, after the team's training session at Ninho do Urubu, executive director of football Zico explained the status of the negotiations.
According to him, the Russian club and Flamengo will still discuss a possible solution to the impasse. CSKA does not wish to extend the player's loan but is willing to negotiate a permanent deal, and Flamengo is already working on a proposal that pleases the Russians.
"We haven't given up on Vagner Love. I'm still waiting for a response from CSKA to find out if a representative will come to Brazil or if we'll send a representative to Russia," explained Galinho, who emphasized the importance of the striker maintaining his strong rhythm in training so as not to jeopardize his future, regardless of whether it will be at Gávea or not.
"Flamengo is concerned about the player and I think it's important that he continues training. I haven't spoken to him between yesterday and today, but he knows that his career continues, whether at Flamengo or not. I think it would be important for him to continue working," he added.
With 23 goals in 29 games, Vagner Love is the Rubro-Negro's top scorer this season. He was not only the top scorer, with 15 goals, but also the fans' favorite and the best striker in the Campeonato Carioca.
