This Saturday (06.03), Flamengo and Resende will be face to face, at 19:30 pm, at the Raulino de Oliveira Stadium, in Volta Redonda, in a duel valid for the second round of the Rio Cup. Undefeated and in second place in group A of the competition, Rubro-negro will take to the field with one mission: to win and play well for the 90 minutes.
Accustomed to pressure and knowledgeable about the shortcuts to playing good football, coach Andrade has already warned his players about the importance of the match against Sul-Fluminense. He believes the team cannot repeat the subpar performance they had in the first half against Madureira last Wednesday (March 03.03).
"These games are very dangerous, and the players are aware of that. More than half of the group has already played for the Brazilian national team. Almost all of them are experienced players. They won't make the same mistakes they made in the first half of the last game," explained Andrade, who has not yet decided which team he will send to the match.
"I haven't decided on the team for the game yet, as I could make some changes to the starting lineup from the last game. Wednesday's first half wasn't good, and I'm thinking about what to do. I could move Willians up to the right, Ramón could come in... There's Vinícius, who can play in the middle or as a second striker. I have time before the game, and I'll make the best decision," he concluded.
And for those who insist on remembering Flamengo's 3-1 defeat to Resende in the 2009 Guanabara Cup semi-final, Andrade, who was an assistant coach at the time, leaves a message.
"The game was different. I was working as an assistant and I remember we lost Fabio Luciano and Airton early. So, Resende ended up winning. It was an atypical game. This Saturday is different, it's not a semifinal and we're not going to compare," he said.
Retrospect
The teams have met only three times, with Flamengo winning twice and Resende winning once. In the last match, on March 28th of last year at Engenhão, Flamengo won 4-0, with goals from Josiel (two), Zé Roberto, and Kleberson. The Sul-Fluminense team's only victory in the match came in 2009 (3-1).
