It wasn't enough for Flamengo. The Red-Black team was defeated 2-1 by LDU in Quito in the fifth round of the Copa Libertadores group stage. Now, the "Mais Querido" (the most beloved team) must draw on May 8th against Peñarol in Uruguay to qualify for the round of 16.
First time
In the first half, Flamengo relied on counterattacks and came out on top in the 18th minute. Pará crossed from the right and found Bruno Henrique, who headed home to make it 1-0 Mengão. It was the striker's first goal in the 2019 Libertadores. In the 36th minute, another chance came from BH. He received a beautiful pass from Gabigol and nearly scored. Gabbarini made a great save. At the back, Mengão held on with good interventions from goalkeeper Diego Alves. And up front, Éverton Ribeiro nearly scored again in the 44th minute. He hit Gabbarini's post. In the 47th minute, what no one expected happened. Anangonó equalized for LDU with the final play of the half.
Second time
In the second half, Flamengo continued to rely on counterattacks, but were ultimately punished in the 27th minute. Chicaiza's shot from outside the box gave Diego Alves no chance. Flamengo tried every possible way to equalize. Vitinho had the best plays, but the star player was unable to change the score.
