Flamengo loses to Atlético-PR in the Brazilian Championship
The team will play again next Thursday against Vitória, at home.
By Flamengo Communication - inSunday started poorly for Flamengo. The team faced Atlético Paranaense at Arena da Baixada and ended up losing 3-0 in the 19th round of the Brazilian Championship. All the goals came in the first half, scored by Pablo, Raphael Veiga, and Zé Ivaldo before the 20th minute. Flamengo had opportunities but failed to convert them and ended up losing.
The red-and-black fans showed up at the Arena da Baixada, even though they couldn't wear uniforms and had to stand alongside the Atlético fans. The fans who showed up cheered their team on, but Atlético's early goal changed the complexion of the match. In the ninth minute, Pablo received a cross and opened the scoring. Three minutes after the goal, the best chance of the first half came. Rodinei shot from distance, Santos saved and rebounded. Vitinho shot first time, but the goalkeeper saved again, saving the home team. In the 16th minute, Atlético extended their lead. Pablo's shot, Nikão deflected, making it difficult for César to save, but Raphael Veiga collected the rebound. And in the 20th minute, Zé Ivaldo headed in a corner kick for the third.
Mauricio Barbieri made changes to the lineup, replacing Willian Arão with Marlos Moreno, Everton Ribeiro with Geuvânio, and Fernando Uribe with Lincoln. Flamengo had a better second half, but created counterattacking opportunities for Atlético. Lincoln created the best chances, but Flamengo failed to find the back of the net and suffered its fourth defeat in the competition.
In the next round, Flamengo will face Vitória, at Maracanã, at 19:30 pm, in the opening match of the second half of the Brazilian Championship.
