Flamengo did not have a good start to the Conmebol Libertadores Round of 16. The team failed to impose itself at home and ended up losing to Cruzeiro 2-0 at the Maracanã in the first leg. Now, they need to win by two goals in Minas Gerais on the 29th to secure a place in the quarterfinals. 

The game had a unique pattern. Flamengo had much more possession, but struggled to finish. On the few occasions they did get close, they were stopped by Fabio. Cruzeiro, on the other hand, had few chances, but was more effective.

At the start of the first half, Arrascaeta received a pass from Robinho inside the penalty area and scored the first goal. What followed was Flamengo pressing the Minas Gerais team, but without managing to score. At 23 minutes, from a corner kick on the right, Uribe rose and headed well. The ball went just wide of the post. Diego tried to reach it, but missed by centimeters. At 31 minutes, another good chance for Uribe. Rodinei crossed and the Colombian headed strongly, but the ball deflected for a corner. 

In the second half, the scenario remained the same. Three minutes in, Rodinei made a great play on the right, crossed for Uribe to try again, and Fabio made another great save. Mauricio Barbieri made changes to the team, bringing on Vitinho and Lincoln in place of Jean Lucas and Marlos Moreno, but the situation worsened. In the 32nd minute, Lucas Silva shot powerfully from the edge of the area, and Thiago Neves headed it in to extend the lead.

The score remained unchanged until the end, and the decision was left for Belo Horizonte. The two teams will meet again on Sunday at 16 pm, also at the Maracanã, for the Brazilian Championship.
