Flamengo loses to Athletico-PR at Maracanã and says goodbye to the Copa do Brasil

With a 3-0 loss to Athletico-PR at the Maracanã, Flamengo bid farewell to the Copa do Brasil, as the first game, in Curitiba, ended in a 2-2 draw. Flamengo returns to action on Saturday, facing Atlético-MG at the Maracanã, in the Brazilian Championship.
The teams were still studying each other when Filipe Luís challenged Renato Kayzer for the ball inside the Flamengo box, and the referee awarded a penalty after consulting the VAR. After a long stoppage, Nikão took the ball well and opened the scoring in the 10th minute. Flamengo felt the goal but, with the support of the Nation, regained the initiative and went in search of an equalizer. First Bruno Henrique and then Léo Pereira missed clear chances.
Athletico played deep, congesting their midfield and making it difficult for Flamengo to exchange passes in attack. The pressure increased, and in the 32nd minute, the referee awarded a penalty by Thiago Heleno on Bruno Henrique. But after consulting the VAR, he overturned the penalty. In the 40th minute, Bruno Henrique hit a beautiful volley, and Santos held firm.
With so many stops, the first half lasted until the 55th minute. And in the 52nd, on a counterattack, Nikão hit the ball under Diego Alves and made it 2-0. Before the break, Isla left Andreas free in the box to reduce the deficit, but his shot went over.
Renato Gaúcho took off Diego at halftime and put Michael wide on the left, and the short man set the game on fire. In the first minute, Bruno Henrique received the ball from Michael and nearly equalized. In the seventh minute, Michael made a solo run and nearly scored a memorable goal after dribbling past four opponents. Santos made a great save, and the ball hit the crossbar.
