Flamengo lost 1-0 to Atlético-PR on Wednesday night (23) and is out of the final of the Primeira Liga Cup. The team led by Muricy Ramalho created chances and had great saves from Paulo Victor, but was unable to score in the match, at the municipal stadium in Juiz de Fora.
The next match will be on Saturday (26), at 18:30 pm, against Volta Redonda, at the Cidadania stadium, for the 3rd round of the Campeonato Carioca.
The game
Flamengo's first clear chance came in the 12th minute: after a pass between Gabriel and Willian Arão on the right, the cross reached Felipe Vizeu, who headed dangerously inside the box but missed. Six minutes later, Gabriel crossed from the left and the ball grazed Wallace and Juan; from the right, the ball fell to Arão, who lifted the ball into the box again, and the number 4 was there again with a header that went just wide of Weverton's right post. In the 38th minute, perhaps Flamengo's biggest opportunity to open the scoring fell to Éverton. After a cross from Jorge, the midfielder headed home, forcing the opposing goalkeeper to make a great reflex save.
Five minutes into the second half, Emerson, who had come on at halftime in place of Éverton, crossed to Vizeu, who narrowly missed the target: the ball deflected off the defense. Atlético-PR had the better chances of the match, and Paulo Victor was always on hand when needed, but it was Atlético-PR who opened the scoring. After two dangerous attacks with Nikão and Walter, Atlético-PR scored in the 16th minute with an unstoppable shot from outside the box.
After the goal, the Paraná team increased the attacking pressure until Marcelo Cirino, shortly after replacing Gabriel, made a powerful run down the right. The number 7 advanced into the box, lined up, and fired a powerful shot, but the ball sailed over Weverton's crossbar. Before the end of the match, Paulo Victor made three more good saves, but Flamengo was unable to take the decision to penalties.
