In the 2025 Campeonato Carioca opener, Flamengo lost 2-1 to Boavista at Batistão Stadium in Aracaju, Sergipe. Carlinhos scored the only goal for Flamengo in the match. It's worth noting that Flamengo is playing the first rounds of the state championship with a squad comprised primarily of U-20 athletes. The game
Flamengo started the match valuing possession in the attacking half and pressed the ball to make it difficult for Boavista to exchange passes. In the 10th minute, the team from Saquarema managed to find the back of the net, but the play was disallowed because the ball had already gone out of bounds before the cross.

Throughout the first half, the game was quite tight, especially in midfield, with a lot of back-and-forth. At the start of the second half, Flamengo came back more attacking. In the seventh minute, Lorran headed the ball just wide of the goal. Soon after, Mengão equalized! Lorran shot stylishly from outside the box, but the ball hit the crossbar. Carlinhos headed the rebound into the net. The score was tied in Aracaju: 1-1.

In the 21st minute, Boavista regained the lead. After a ball hit the crossbar, Gabriel Conceição headed the ball into the middle of the box, and Raí finished it into the net: 2-1. Once again trailing, the red-and-black team pushed forward to seek another equalizer.

In the final minutes, Flamengo pressed Boavista to try to equalize the score again, but ended up losing. It's worth noting that Flamengo hadn't lost in a Carioca debut for 19 years.
