Flamengo loses to Ceará at Maracanã
Rubro-negro puts a lot of pressure on, can't find the goal and is punished at the end
By Flamengo Communication - inOn Sunday morning (02), Flamengo was defeated by Ceará 1-0 at Maracanã. The opponent's goal came at the end of the match, with a shot from outside the area by Leandro Carvalho. With the result, the team remains in third place with 41 points.
Pressure, but no goals
Flamengo started the game by pressing Ceará in defense. With great momentum and intensity, Diego, Paquetá, Marlos, and Everton Ribeiro dictated the pace, searching for space and opportunities. The nation, energized, played along.
The game flowed. The opponent shrank. Diego opened the scoring, but his goal was incorrectly disallowed. After a corner kick and deflection, the number 10 was in line with the opposing defender before finishing.
Diego would also hit the post from a corner kick. Réver, in a great individual play, dribbled past the defender, shot from distance, and forced a huge save from the goalkeeper. Until the 25th minute, it was all Mengão.
As the first half progressed, Ceará sought to counterattack and even threatened Diego Alves. The red-and-blacks, however, slowed down the game but began to find fewer spaces. The partial tie persisted.
Imponderable
The pace of the game after the restart remained the same: Flamengo chasing the opening goal and Ceará increasingly retreating. Suffering from a lack of space, the Red-Blacks sought one-twos and steals to catch their opponent off guard. Furthermore, Barbieri brought on Vitinho and Lincoln in the 15th minute, replacing Dourado and Marlos.
Mengão persisted. In the 25th minute, Lucas Paquetá headed the ball, and the goalkeeper, blindsided, saw the ball fly just wide. The 61.277 in attendance, a record attendance for the Brasileirão, cheered the team on.
But football often has its uncertainties. Leandro Carvalho scored Ceará's goal from outside the box, sealing the game's final goal in the 40th minute.
And now?
Flamengo's next match will be on Wednesday at 21:45 p.m. Their opponent will be Internacional at Beira-Rio Stadium. This weekend, Flamengo will host Chapecoense at Maracanã Stadium (Saturday at 21 p.m.).
