The match started with great intensity. Confiança approached the game with such determination that, at times, they overdid it and ended up playing violently. Just nine minutes into the game, Elielton was sent off after kicking Ederson in the face. The first half passed without any significant chances for either team. Flamengo attacked but was caught offside on several occasions. In the 37th minute, Guerrero received a pass from Emerson inside the box and shot, but the goalkeeper managed to save it with reflexes.

The second half saw few changes to the game's overall structure. Down ten men, Confiança focused on defense, with almost every player behind the ball. Confiança struggled to break through the home team's defense. In the 34th minute, Confiança capitalized on a counterattack and scored the game's only goal. The red-and-black coach also replaced Marcelo Cirino with Felipe Vizeu, but the score remained unchanged.
