In the ninth round of the Brasileirão, Flamengo lost the classic to Fluminense by 1 to 0 on Sunday afternoon (04), at Neo Química Arena-SP. In the next round, Rubro-Negro faces Atlético-MG, at Mineirão.
The game
The match began with Flamengo taking the initiative and trying to find space in the Tricolor defense. The first good chance came in the fifth minute. In a good exchange of passes through the middle, Vitinho received the ball and took a shot from outside the box, which went wide of the post. In the 10th minute, Michael delivered a good pass to Bruno Henrique, who had freedom to advance into the box. The striker attempted a shot, but Marcos Felipe made a great save.
The red-and-black team pressed hard and pressured Fluminense's attacking play. In the 33rd minute, Mengão nearly opened the scoring. Vitinho took a free kick to the far post, Gustavo Henrique rose and headed it powerfully against the crossbar. Late in the first half, Vitinho took a corner kick into the box and Rodrigo Caio caught it first time. The ball sailed just wide of the post. Flamengo wasted countless chances, had the majority of possession, and almost went into halftime ahead: 0-0.
Fluminense continued to dominate the second half, dominating the action with a flurry of passing in the attacking midfield. In the 15th minute, Filipe Luís lifted the ball to the far post, and Rodrigo Caio headed dangerously. As the second half progressed, Fluminense grew in importance and began to attack more, leaving the derby open for both sides. Late in the match, on a counterattack, Fluminense scored the winning goal through André, making it 1-0.
