Flamengo was valiant, but they couldn't overcome Liverpool this Saturday in Doha in the Club World Cup final. After a 0-0 draw in regulation time, the "Mais Querido" (the most beloved club) was defeated 1-0 in extra time. Brazilian Roberto Firmino scored the winning goal for the English side.

The game

The first half was very even. Liverpool started better and had three good chances in the first 10 minutes, but Flamengo found their feet and began to dominate the match from then on. Bruno Henrique threatened the opposing goal at least twice.

In the second half, the match remained evenly matched. Liverpool again started better, but Flamengo gradually found their footing. Gabigol's big chance fell to Flamengo, whose shot was superbly saved by Alisson. At the back, the Flamengo defense performed very well, especially with goalkeeper Diego Alves.

Extension

Even with a modified lineup (Vitinho, Diego, and Lincoln replaced De Arrascaeta, Everton Ribeiro, and Gerson), Flamengo continued to give Liverpool a hard time. But they conceded a goal in the 8th minute of the first half of extra time. Roberto Firmino received a good through ball, beat Rodrigo Caio and Diego Alves, and fired home: 1-0 Liverpool. Flamengo still had a great chance to equalize late in the second half of extra time. Lincoln received a beautiful pass from Vitinho but shot over.

It is worth remembering that Flamengo ends the season with four titles: (Florida Cup, Campeonato Carioca, Campeonato Brasileiro and Taça Libertadores).
