In the last match of the season, Flamengo lost to São Paulo, 1-0, on Wednesday night (6), at Morumbi, in the 38th round of the Brasileirão. With the result, Rubro-Negro, even with the defeat, guaranteed a direct place in the Conmebol Libertadores, finishing in fourth place in the championship with 66 points.  

The game
Flamengo started the match trying to keep possession. Three minutes in, Pedro received the ball at the edge of the box and took a shot, but the ball went out for a goal kick. São Paulo, for their part, also sought to attack and left the game open.

In the 25th minute, São Paulo opened the scoring. Wellington Rato sent a low cross to Luciano, who slotted it home, leaving Rossi with no chance: 1-0. The red-and-black team struggled to create attacking chances. In the closing stages, Flamengo tried to put pressure on their opponents to equalize before halftime, but ultimately failed.

At the start of the second half, the game became quite tight, with back-and-forth play in midfield. Flamengo continued to surround São Paulo's penalty area but continued to make errors with their final pass. During the second half, the match became lukewarm, with few chances created by either side.

Rubro-Negro searched for the equalizer until the end, but ended up being defeated in the last match of the 2023 season. With the result, the team from Gávea finished in fourth place in the Brasileirão and guaranteed a direct spot in the 2024 Libertadores.
