In a match played in the 20th round of the Brazilian Championship, Flamengo was defeated 1-0 by Sport at the Arena de Pernambuco. Edmílson scored the winning goal for the Pernambuco team. Peruvian striker Paolo Guerrero and midfielder Willian Arão received their third yellow cards and will not face Grêmio in the next round of the competition.

The match against the team from Rio Grande do Sul will take place next Sunday (21), at the Mané Garrincha Stadium, in Brasília. The ball will roll from 11 am.

The first half saw few clear-cut chances created by either team, but Sporting dominated possession early on. Flamengo secured two consecutive corners and sought to keep the ball in the attacking half. Soon after, midfielder Diego Souza felt muscle pain and requested a substitution. Edmílson replaced him, and Sport began to work the ball more effectively in the central area.

In the 24th minute, the Pernambuco team scored the game-clinching goal. Forward Rogério picked up the ball in midfield and made a quick run, carrying the ball down the left side of the penalty area, dribbling past Réver and Márcio Araújo, and leaving Edmílson one-on-one with the goal. The midfielder only had to beat goalkeeper Alex Muralha to open the scoring.

In the second half, Flamengo became more attacking after Alan Patrick replaced Márcio Araújo at halftime. However, the team was hampered by a strong defensive posture from the opposing team, which threatened with counterattacks. Sport came close to doubling the lead twice, first with Edmílson's one-on-one shot from Muralha, who performed a miracle, and then with Rogério, after an individual run down the right flank and a weak shot that was easily saved by the Flamengo goalkeeper.

Zé Ricardo replaced Chiquinho with Adryan, moving Éverton to the left-back position. The team managed to create more plays on the left side of the attack after the change, but had few shots on goal. The red-and-black coach's final change came in the 27th minute, with Leandro Damião replacing Marcelo Cirino. 

Flamengo continued to search for the equalizer, but Sport held their own defensively and secured the victory.
