Flamengo traveled to Volta Redonda and ended up losing to the home team 1-0, with a goal by Rafael Pernão. With this result, the team remains with 4 points in the Taça Guanabara standings.
Truncated game
The Volta Redonda team came in with the intention of defending and closing down spaces, causing problems for Flamengo. But, little by little, coach Muricy Ramalho's team found gaps in the opposing defense to create chances. With Ederson leading the attacks, and Gabriel and Marcelo Cirino looking to provide options for the number 10, Flamengo created opportunities, but were thwarted by goalkeeper Mota's interventions.
Despite having plenty of possession, nine corner kicks, and shots from midfield, Flamengo couldn't break through the opponent's defense in the first 45 minutes.
Second time
Just two minutes in, Flamengo created the best chance of the match so far. Ederson made a good run down the left and passed to Marcelo Cirino. The number 7 shot hard, but goalkeeper Mota prevented Flamengo from scoring.
The Volta Redonda goalkeeper continued to thwart the chances created by Flamengo. At 12 minutes, in a great play by Cirino and Willian Arão, Ederson received the cross and shot, but the opposing goalkeeper made a great save.
Looking for a goal, Flamengo came close again in the 24th minute. Felipe Vizeu's shot was met with another great save from Mota. Seeking alternatives to open the scoring, Muricy Ramalho brought on Alan Patrick in place of Gabriel.
The game remained disjointed. Flamengo continued to look for openings, but ended up being punished. In a counter-attack, Volta Redonda found the winning goal with Rafael Pernão.
Flamengo's next match will be against Vasco da Gama, Wednesday (30), 21:45, at Mané Garrincha for the 4th round of the Taça Guanabara.
