The Flamengo went to Paraguay and ended up being defeated by Olimpia 3-1 on Thursday night (10), at the Defensores del Chaco stadium, in the second leg of the round of XNUMX of the Conmebol Libertadores. Bruno Henrique scored the red-black goal.
As a result, the Gávea club was eliminated from the continental competition.
The game
The match began with Olimpia taking the initiative to attack, having lost the first leg at a disadvantage. But Mengão quickly eased the Paraguayan pressure and opened the scoring in the seventh minute. Arrascaeta took a free kick from the left wing, and Bruno Henrique deflected it into the net: 1-0.
The home side reacted quickly and leveled the score in the 11th minute. González crossed into the red-black box and Iván Torres got ahead of Matheus Cunha to score with a header: 1-1. Despite the draw, the red-black team didn't feel it and continued to value possession in the attacking half, looking to find space in Olimpia's defense.
In the 31st minute, Gabi found the net, but the referee ruled Bruno Henrique offside at the start of the play. Despite a lively first half, the teams went into halftime tied.
At the start of the second half, Flamengo stepped up their defense to force their opponents into mistakes. Coach Jorge Sampaoli's complaint resulted in a second yellow card and a red card. In the 11th minute, Flamengo created a dangerous situation. Arrascaeta received the ball at the edge of the box, turned, and passed it to Bruno Henrique, who shot first-time, but Espínola saved.
In the 23rd minute, Olimpia scored the second goal with Ortiz, who headed in a corner kick from the left: 2-1. The home team scored the third goal in the 34th minute. Bruera, who came on in the second half, rose higher than the defense and headed the ball into the corner: 3-1.
Victor Hugo scored in the 43rd minute, but after a VAR check, the referee ruled Gabi offside. Flamengo pushed for a second goal until the last minute, but ended up losing in Paraguay.
