In the fifth round of the Brasileirão, Flamengo lost to Botafogo 1-0 on Sunday morning (8), at the Mané Garrincha stadium. Rubro-Negro returns to the field next Wednesday (11) to face Altos-PI, in the second leg of the Copa do Brasil.
The game
The derby began with Flamengo taking the lead and attacking Botafogo. The red-and-black team pressed the opponent's ball out, which struggled to break the deadlock. In the 13th minute, with the first significant scoring opportunity, Arrascaeta lifted the ball into the box, and Arão rose to head it in. Gatito deflected the ball, and the post saved the first goal.
In the 23rd minute, Ayrton Lucas, who had just come on for Filipe Luís, raced down the left and delivered a beautiful pass to Gabi. The striker beat Gatito, who was cut out on the first attempt. The number 9 himself then sent the ball wide. Everton Ribeiro then delivered a beautiful pass for Gabigol to head home, but VAR ruled it offside.
In the 49th minute, Flamengo made another good play. On the counterattack, Everton Ribeiro sent Bruno Henrique into the box, and the striker fired a shot that Gatito saved well. Despite a lively first half, the teams went into the break with the score unchanged.
The Mais Querido started the second half with a bang. Everton Ribeiro was fouled just outside the box. Arrascaeta shot dangerously, but the ball went over the crossbar. In the next play, Erison took a shot from outside the box and opened the scoring for Botafogo: 0-1.
Trailing, Flamengo rushed forward in search of an equalizer. Bruno Henrique advanced down the left, cut inside, and unleashed a powerful shot. Gatito flew into the left corner to save Flamengo. In the 27th minute, Everton Ribeiro grabbed the rebound just outside the box, and the ball sailed just wide of the post.
In the 34th minute, Lázaro came into his own. Running down the left, he fired a well-placed shot, but Gatito made another great save. In the final minutes, Flamengo squandered a few opportunities to tie the game, which ended in a Botafogo victory.
