Flamengo loses first game of the round of 16
First leg ends 1-0 to Vasco; 'away goals' do not count as a tiebreaker

On Wednesday night (20.08), Flamengo took to the field for the first game of the round of 16 of the Copa do Brasil, at Maracanã. Vasco took the lead and won 1-0. Check out the photo gallery of the classic.
The return leg will be next Wednesday (August 29.08th), at 22 p.m., also at Mário Filho Stadium. If the red-black team wins by one goal, the decision for qualification will go to penalties; if the team wins by two goals, they will qualify in regular time.

The game
The match started off very tense, with hard fouls and intense ball-fighting. Within two minutes, Flamengo had already been fouled twice, on Jorge and Guerrero, and Vasco had already been booked. In the 15th minute, the first clear chance for Flamengo to score came: Guerrero received the ball in front of goal, fired a right-footed shot, and forced Martín Silva into a great save. Vasco responded two minutes later with a powerful shot from Nenê, and it was Cesar's turn to perform the miracle. In the 35th minute, Emerson took a free kick from the edge of the box, the ball bounced off the defense and back to Vasco; Canteros took a chance on the rebound, but the linesman flagged for offside. The game went into halftime at 0-0.
Flamengo returned to the field unchanged, trying to stifle Vasco's penalty area, but in the 12th minute, it was their opponent who opened the scoring with Jorge Henrique. Jorge responded shortly after with a fine move down the left. The forward received the ball from Ederson, cut inside, and attempted a good shot, but the ball deflected off Guiñazu. In the 24th minute, Flamengo was left with ten men with Wallace's red card, shortly after Jajá came on for Ederson. To rebuild the defense, Cristóvão took off Éverton and brought on Samir. Downnumbered, Flamengo remained committed, and the score remained 1-0.
