This Wednesday (17.03), at 21:50 pm (Brasília time), Flamengo will be looking for another victory in the Copa Santander Libertadores. With six points, in first place in group 8 of the competition, the Rubro-negro da Gávea faces Universidad de Chile, in Santiago.
And if they win, Flamengo will open up a five-point lead over the second-place team in the group. Such a lead, halfway through the group stage, is seen, if achieved, as a gift for the players' dedication. With only one loss this year, the red-and-black team has been increasingly demonstrating its strength.
"Everyone can see how dedicated the players are. If I'm feeling the string of games, imagine the guys, who run so hard every game. The important thing is that we know how important these matches are. With this effort, we will be rewarded," said captain Bruno.
Regarding the opponent he will face this Wednesday, Andrade confirms that he already knows how Universidad de Chile plays.
"They're not as technically skilled as Católica. However, they're feisty in attack and aggressive. Perhaps they're a team with more of a Libertadores feel. It's going to be a very important match for us, and even with the wear and tear of recent weeks, we'll start strong. The team is prepared, and a draw won't be seen as a bad result. But I want to make it clear that we're not thinking about that (a draw)," said Andrade.
And to at least score points in Chile, Flamengo will use the same tactic as always: group unity, which already resulted in the 2009 Brazilian Championship.
"The team is very united. Nothing that comes from outside will disrupt our plans. We know it will be difficult, but we're going to go for the win. A draw isn't bad at all, but we're going after the three points," explained left-back Juan.
In his first season as a starter for Flamengo, young Fabrício is looking for, in addition to a good result for the team, another personal victory.
"It's another chance to showcase my work. Professor Andrade is giving me opportunities and I'm trying to take advantage of them. I'll keep going strong, working hard to help Flamengo, and I'll be happy," said Fabrício.
And while the young defender is looking forward to another game, the experienced Léo Moura feels no different. Having already won numerous titles with Flamengo, he's enjoying this marathon of games and is going all out against Universidad de Chile.
"Every player enjoys important matches. It's been great to face this marathon. It's tiring, it's exhausting, but it's good. Just training is boring. It's much better to take the field in decisive matches," concluded Léo Moura.
On the other hand, the Universidad de Chile players seem well-versed in Flamengo. According to the Chilean team's coach, Gerardo Pelusso, they'll only achieve a good result if they maintain focus.
"We know that Flamengo is the strongest team in the group. That's why I've already asked the players to be attentive at all times. In addition to showing a lot of effort on the field," he revealed.
