Flamengo hosts Peñarol and seeks to maintain its unbeaten run in the Conmebol Libertadores

After winning the Taça Rio title last weekend, the Mais Querido now turns all its attention to the Conmebol Libertadores. With a 100% record in the first two games, Flamengo will face Peñarol-URU, this Wednesday (03), at 21:30 pm, at Maracanã.
Coach Abel Braga is back in action and will lead the team against Uruguay on Wednesday night. The manager held a press conference earlier this week and discussed his expectations for another Libertadores match.
"This game will be a game changer. Peñarol is a very strong team in the Libertadores. They've improved significantly since their loss to LDU and secured an important home win against San José. The Uruguayan player is very strong in his approach to matches, playing every ball. We know all this, but we'll try to face them head-to-head using our best assets, which are our individual and collective ability."

On the eve of the third round of the Conmebol Libertadores, midfielder Everton Ribeiro gave a press conference at Ninho do Urubu and highlighted the importance of remaining undefeated in the competition.
"Our start is good, but we have to confirm it with a victory. We're prepared. Victories give us more confidence to continue our quest for the title. The fans will be there, and it will be a great test for us."
The number 7 took advantage of the chat with journalists to analyze this Wednesday's opponent.
"We just have to play football, regardless of what Peñarol comes up with. But I believe they come to play football. It's natural that they want to cool down the game. We have to control our anxiety; it can't get in our way. Everyone must keep a cool head, but maintain intensity."

Flamengo x Peñarol
In the last official meeting between the teams, Flamengo eliminated the Uruguayans in the semifinals of the 1999 Mercosul Cup. In the final, the Mais Querido beat Palmeiras and took the title of the competition.
Flamengo and Peñarol have faced each other 13 times throughout history, with six Brazilian victories, five Uruguayan victories, and two draws. In terms of goals scored, Flamengo again has the advantage: 20 to 15.
There were two Libertadores matches, two Mercosur Cup matches, four friendlies, and five friendly tournaments. Of these 13 matches, seven were in Uruguay, four in Brazil, one in Italy, and one in Peru.
Champion in 1981, Flamengo is competing in the Libertadores for the 15th time in history, being the Rio de Janeiro team with the most appearances in the South American competition.
Flamengo's best campaigns in the Libertadores group stage were in 1984 and 2007. In these two editions, Rubro-Negro went undefeated through the group stage, with five wins and one draw.
