In order to ensure the safety of its athletes, coaching staff, and Football Department employees, Clube de Regatas do Flamengo carried out a wide-ranging effort to test for the new coronavirus, which causes COVID-19.

Between April 30 and May 3, 293 tests were carried out, reaching, in addition to 100% of all these employees, many close family members of the players.

These tests on all staff and employees are in line with best practices recommended by the WHO, even surpassing what is done in countries that have successfully fought the pandemic.

The exam results came out this Tuesday (6), being:

1. Of the 293 individuals tested, 38 tested positive, even without symptoms—these are called "asymptomatic positives." Eleven individuals were detected who had previously had contact with the virus, without symptoms, and already tested positive for IgG antibodies.

2. Of the 38 who tested positive for the virus, six were from Flamengo's support team, two from outsourced companies that regularly provide services to the club, 25 family members or people who work in the homes of employees and players, and three athletes from the main squad; two other players tested positive for IgG antibodies.

For those who tested positive, all asymptomatic, the measures will be isolation and quarantine, daily monitoring with questionnaires on vital signs and progress, in addition to new serial dosages of patients and contacts until the cases are resolved.

Athletes whose family members or staff tested positive will be quarantined and monitored daily with questionnaires about signs of the disease and retesting. If they test negative again, they will be reintegrated into work within a safe timeframe, or if they test positive, they will follow the same conduct as those who have already tested positive.

Finally, Flamengo reaffirms that it is working in complete harmony with government authorities to, with all responsibility and safety, collaborate with the important return to football activities as soon as possible.
