Flamengo meets Grêmio again aiming to maintain its lead in the Brazilian Championship
This Saturday's duel is valid for the 17th round of the national competition

This time, red-blacks and tricolors face each other in the 17th round of the Brazilian Championship. The match this Saturday (4) will again be at the Arena and the ball rolls from 19 pm.
With the goal of maintaining their lead in the Brazilian Championship and being able to field their ideal team, the players underwent medical and physiological evaluations this Friday morning, which revealed their individual fatigue levels. After training, full-back Renê spoke to the press and stated that he is ready for another game and highlighted his partnership with Cuellar in defense.
“I’m not tired. Based on the exam we did today, I’m fine for the game, but we’ll wait for the coach’s decision; he knows what’s best for the team. We’ve been trying to help in the best way possible; Cuellar and I have a great responsibility back there in helping the defense, and thank God that’s been working. We’ve been able to win the ball back and provide support up front. I hope we can get better every day so we can help Flamengo win titles.”

Since the team has been training in Viamão, Rio Grande do Sul, since last Tuesday (July 31st), the list of players remains the same, with the addition of defender Rafael Santos, from the under-20 team, and midfielder Piris da Motta, recently signed. It is worth noting that the Paraguayan reinforcement still needs to appear in the CBF's (Brazilian Football Confederation) registration system to be eligible to play.
Grêmio x Flamengo
The clash between Flamengo and Grêmio in the Brazilian Championship brings back great memories for the Flamengo fans. On two occasions, Flamengo became national champions in matches against the Grêmio team from Rio Grande do Sul. With goals from defenders David and Ronaldo Angelim, the nearly 85 Flamengo fans present at the Maracanã on that December 6, 2009, released the cry of a sixth championship title that had been stuck in their throats for 17 years. Roberson scored Grêmio's goal on that occasion.
In 1982, Flamengo and Grêmio played three electrifying matches in the final of that year's Brazilian Championship. The first game, played at the Maracanã, ended in a 1-1 draw. Tonho opened the scoring for the visitors, and Zico scored in the last minute. In Porto Alegre, the teams drew 0-0. And finally, on April 25th, again in the capital of Rio Grande do Sul, Flamengo won 1-0, with a goal by Nunes assisted by Zico.
These are memories of the past that reverberate in the present and fill the fans with anticipation. Speaking of anticipation, what about Diego's debut in the Sacred Mantle? On August 21, 2016, Diego debuted in a Flamengo vs. Grêmio match at the Mané Garrincha stadium, for the 21st round of the Brasileirão. And it couldn't have been any other way: a 2-1 victory with a goal from our number 10. Leandro Damião also scored for Flamengo, and Henrique Almeida scored for Grêmio.
Coincidence or not, Diego played his first and 100th game for Flamengo against Grêmio. On Wednesday, the midfielder reached the symbolic milestone of 100 games in the match against the Tricolor in the Copa do Brasil.
