Flamengo renews contract with Petkovic
After a meeting with the red-black board, the Serbian midfielder agreed to stay at Gávea until the end of 2011

Flamengo announced this Friday (28.05), the first contract renewal of the players that are in the squad, Brazilian champion. After a meeting between Petkovic, his agent and the club's board, the Rubro-negro renewed the contract with the Serbian midfielder until the end of 2011. In the agreement between the player and the club it was decided that the midfielder's lawyer, Rodrigo Ramos, will withdraw the lawsuit filed against Flamengo.
Happy with the agreement reached between the parties, president Patrícia Amorim celebrated the 'reinforcement' for the rest of the season, as did vice-president of football Hélio Ferraz.
"Petkovic is an experienced player, has a great history at Flamengo, and we're happy to have reached a happy ending to this negotiation. This wasn't the first step we've taken toward maintaining a strong squad, but it's the first we're announcing. In fact, we only announce something when it's actually finalized. I don't usually say anything before it happens. That's how we've been working, and that's our stance," said president Patricia Amorim, who is expected to announce more news in the coming days.
If he plays against Grêmio, Petkovic will have made 170 appearances for Flamengo. With Flamengo, the Serbian midfielder won two Campeonato Carioca titles (2000 and 2001), the latter with his famous free kick goal in the final against Vasco, a Copa dos Campeões (2001) and a Campeonato Brasileiro (2009).
