Flamengo rejects the CBF's position on the 1987 title
Winner on the field, Rubro-negro will fight until the last instance for recognition of the sixth title

After the Brazilian Football Confederation (CBF) announced that it could not declare Flamengo the 1987 Brazilian champion due to a court ruling, the Rubro-Negro, who won the title on the field, issued a statement. Through president Patricia Amorim and vice president of legal affairs Rafael de Piro, the six-time champion condemned the ruling by Brazilian football's governing body.
Unhappy with the CBF's political decision, Flamengo's directors promise to pursue what every sensible fan would agree with: the 1987 Brazilian title.
"All legal steps will be taken. Flamengo will go to all possible instances, be they legal, political, social media, whatever is necessary. We will mobilize to condemn the non-recognition of the sixth Brazilian championship and the 1987 Brazilian Championship title. It is important to make it clear that Flamengo is not afraid to go against interests, what we cannot do is fail to fulfill the wishes of 35 million fans," said Patricia Amorim, highlighting the perplexity with which the CBF's statements were received this Wednesday (22.12).
"Flamengo has waited 23 years for this recognition and is convinced of its rights. We are perplexed by the attitude taken today by president Ricardo Teixeira. It was a very uncomfortable day, my stomach is upset, and I think all Flamengo fans are too. We will not forget this day. Flamengo wants this title recognized, and I guarantee it will not remain this way. We will mobilize to have this title ratified. Whatever the cost," he said in a press conference held in Gávea.
Another point raised by the president of Flamengo is the CBF's lack of respect towards the players and professionals who worked so hard to win the 87 Brasileirão on the field.
"I'd like to know how the CBF now views all the players who fought for this title on the field back then. They organized an event to honor past titles, even less significant than ours, and we expected ours to finally be recognized. But to our surprise, that didn't happen. It was a planned, personal, rash, and thoughtful move, and we won't stand back. It's unbelievable that Brazil's most beloved club hasn't had its title recognized."
Patricia Amorim also said that Flamengo will, indeed, fight. Mainly to meet the demands of a nation of fans who recognize the sixth championship.
"Flamengo is not afraid to go into battle. We just can't fail to heed our fans and the will of the people. The fans recognize this, and we will meet the will of the people. I don't shy away from a fight and I will fight for this until the last day of my life. It's a fair, honest, and dignified fight, and one that was won on the field. For every action, there is a reaction. The fight has only just begun."
The entire red-black board was quite irritated by the statement made by the president of the CBF, Ricardo Teixeira, stating that it would be impossible to ratify the red-black title, since the legal department had carried out a survey and there was a decision from the Superior Court of Justice requiring compliance with the decision under penalty of even imprisonment in case of disobedience.
"He claims to have based his decision on a decision that doesn't rule out the possibility of Flamengo being declared Brazilian champions that year. The decision states that Sport would have to be champions, but it doesn't rule out Flamengo's success. It's a flawed argument. We're going to attack on all fronts. The decision was unfair and arbitrary, and it won't stay that way. I guarantee that," concluded Rafael de Piro, the club's vice president of legal affairs.
