Due to the contract signed with Maracanã, which provides for the use of the stadium until the end of 2020, Clube de Regatas do Flamengo decided to terminate the agreement with Associação Atlética Portuguesa for the use of the Luso-Brazilian stadium on Ilha do Governador. The agreement was due to run until December 2019.

Considering that Flamengo will play at least 15 more matches at Maracanã in 2018 and at least 25 matches in 2019, in view of the positive results that the partnership has already been presenting, with the sale of boxes and ticket packages for fan members, and in view of the comparative costs of operating the games, the Board of Directors understood that it did not make sense to maintain a second sports structure in operation.

The agreement with Portuguesa was signed in January 2017 so that Flamengo could play its games in Rio de Janeiro and avoid the constant travel stress that plagued 2016, when Maracanã and Engenhão stadiums were unavailable to the club. Flamengo also played an important role in the negotiations with Maracanã. Flamengo played 20 matches in the Luso-Brazilian Championship, winning 15, drawing two, and losing three—a 78,3% success rate.

It should be reiterated that this decision does not affect the legal action already duly filed against the companies involved in the collapse of the lighting tower, seeking compensation for the losses caused to the Club.

Flamengo would like to thank the Portuguese Athletic Association for its partnership, as the Luso-Brazilian Association was crucial to the professional soccer team's technical development and warmly welcomed the Flamengo fans. New joint projects with the Ilha do Governador club will be welcomed in the future.
