Flamengo knows it can perform better in Chile

A goal conceded early in the game and another early in the second half. Two crucial moments that left Flamengo far from fulfilling its expectations in Wednesday's match at Maracanã. For coach Rogério Lourenço, this is how the Rubro-Negro's duel against Universidad de Chile in the first battle of the Liebrtadores quarterfinals can be summed up.
According to him, the team was prepared and aware of the opponent's main weapons, but the goal conceded in the fourth minute ended up leaving the players anxious to chase the result and harmed the team's psychology.
"The team was tactically prepared based on what we knew about Universidad. But we started poorly and ended up conceding a quick goal. The team became unsteady. They kept saying that you can't concede a goal at home, and the team ended up feeling it," he analyzed.
The coach believes the same thing happened in the final stage, when the team came back with an extra player and after cutting "La U"'s lead to 2-1 before half-time.
"The team was in good shape to come back for the second half, but conceding a goal within two minutes was a cold shower and ended up complicating things. There was an imbalance, we didn't implement what we had discussed, we forced the aerial game too much, which isn't good for us, and that benefited their team. Conceding a goal early in the second half, as happened, was very bad," he observed.
Despite regretting the setback, Rogério believes that the red-and-black team has a chance of turning things around if they play their best football, something that didn't happen at Maracanã, in the return match in Chile.
"Today's performance was far from the Flamengo we know can perform. But that's part of football. We have a chance to turn things around, and we're going to do it," he concluded.
