It's never easy. But today was a dramatic affair of the highest order. Flamengo had to reinvent itself on the field, overcome drama, losses, and knockout threats, and bounce back to leave the Maracanã stadium with a victory in the first leg of the CONMEBOL South American Cup semifinal.
Their opponent, the dangerous Junior Barranquilla, found a goal in the first half, saw goalkeeper Diego Alves come off injured, and thought they could leave Rio with the advantage. But Flamengo's tradition once again prevailed. With two goals from players raised in the Gávea youth academy, Juan and Felipe Vizeu, Flamengo turned the game around and now has the lead, potentially equalizing in the return leg in Barranquilla next Thursday (30).

The match was evenly matched at first, with both teams studying each other and looking for the best opportunity. The first good chance fell to the Mais Querido. Mancuello received the ball from Trauco on the left and unleashed a powerful shot, but the ball hit the outside of the net, prompting some cheers for goal at the Maracanã stadium.
But, in the 16th minute, the first setback occurred. Yony González went one-on-one with Diego Alves and collided violently with the goalkeeper. The number 24 received treatment on the field, but couldn't handle the pain and was replaced by Muralha. Just a minute later, the second setback occurred. Gutiérrez ran down the left and crossed to Teo Gutiérrez in the middle of the box, who scored the Colombian goal.
Flamengo didn't feel the blow and pushed forward, seeking an equalizer, prioritizing dangerous crosses into the box. In the 36th minute, Diego made a good move and crossed for Everton Ribeiro, who headed it over the goal. The team remained on the attack, but struggled to break through the Colombian wall in front of the goal, and the first half ended with Junior in the lead.
The second half started lively. In the first minute, Pará crossed from the right and found Diego free, but the number 10 headed wide. Rueda brought on Vinicius Junior for Mancuello to give the team more pace. In the 22nd minute, the best chance so far came. Following a corner, Réver rose higher than the entire Colombian defense and headed powerfully, but goalkeeper Viera made a great save.
After so much pressure, it went out. From a corner kick, Juan appeared and headed an unstoppable missile, tying the game. It was the star's 33rd goal for Flamengo, placing him as the all-time leading scorer of the defender, alongside Junior Baiano.
After the equalizer, the Red-Blacks kept pushing, looking for a comeback. And they did. With a stunning goal that made you leave the stadium, pay for another ticket, and return. Trauco crossed, Arão set up, and Vizeu fired a first-time shot into the top corner, detonating the Maracanã stadium.
Junior Barranquilla desperately tried to launch an attack, but Flamengo controlled the match and nearly extended their lead with Vinicius Junior, near the end of the match. The referee even helped by ending the match with a corner kick for Mengão, but the result, with the support of the fans and their determination, was once again assured.
