The game
The match began with Corinthians pressing Flamengo's ball out, which struggled to break past the midfield line. Little by little, the red-and-black team broke through the opposing defense and began exchanging passes more frequently in the attacking half. The game was quite choppy, with stoppages due to fouls and medical attention.
In the 20th minute, Corinthians' defense rebounded a ball into the box, and Erick took a shot from mid-range. Cássio made the save in the center of the goal. Ayrton Lucas then attempted a shot from outside the box, but the Corinthians goalkeeper made another good save. With the majority of possession, Flamengo pressed forward, while the São Paulo team retreated and relied on counterattacks.
In the 30th minute, the red-and-black attack put in a strong play. Everton Ribeiro and Bruno Henrique exchanged passes, and the number 7 sent a good ball down the left for Ayrton Lucas. The full-back burst into the box, cut past the defender, and shot hard, but Cássio saved. Then, Everton Ribeiro burst down the left, threatened to cross, but shot straight at goal. The ball hit the crossbar before going out. The first half was lively but ended goalless.
Early in the second half, Gerson delivered a superb pass to Bruno Henrique at speed. The striker entered the box and attempted a chip, but Cássio saved. In the 8th minute, Mengão opened the scoring with a stunning goal! Everton Ribeiro passed to Gerson, who knocked Gil out of the play and fired a beautiful shot into the top corner, leaving the goalkeeper with no chance: 1-0.
Shortly after the goal, coach Mario Jorge made his first changes to the team. Gerson and Pedro were replaced by Arrascaeta and Gabi, respectively. At a disadvantage, Corinthians pushed forward more and began to prowl the red-and-black box more frequently.
In the 31st minute, Fábio Santos attempted a shot on goal, but the ball hit Léo Pereira's hand. The referee awarded the penalty. The full-back himself took the kick, leveling the score at 1-1. Flamengo tried to respond quickly. Bruno Henrique made a good run down the left, dribbling past Fagner, and firing a cross-shot. The ball grazed the post.
In stoppage time, Arrascaeta sent a good ball to Gabi, who made a great shot, but shot wide. The red-and-black team had the final play of the match. Erick grabbed the rebound at the edge of the box, but his shot was blocked by the opposing defense. The match ended in a 1-1 draw at the Arena.
